It has been a long and trying year for everyone, but as our co-chairman Bobby Jones says, “Cancer research still needs to be funded.” So will hold our 24th annual Houston event this year at Kingwood Country Club! Please join us and help make 2020 a great year for cancer research!
The Houston festivities include golf tournaments and dinners combined with live and silent auctions, all dedicated to funding cancer research. United Airlines continues as the presenting sponsor. Corporate citizens from all over have answered the call with sponsorship dollars or in-kind gifts to ensure as much money as possible reaches the bottom line. The silent auction portion of the evening always generates a lot of high spirited competition to take home the prize by donating the highest bid. The live auction often includes golf trips to exotic destinations such as The Masters Weekend, Ireland, Scotland, Palm Springs, Hawaii, and Bay Hill Club in Orlando. We will also introduce special honorees and the GAC Person of the Year award will be presented to an individual, nominated and voted by the GAC Board of Directors for their contributions to the success of the organization.

The Main Golf Tournament and Mike Longpré ProAm are played on Monday. The Longpré Memorial ProAm is held in honor of Michael Scott Longpré, and is a South Texas PGA sanctioned event sponsored by the William Stamps Farish Fund. It is played at the Deerwood Club. Local club pros from the South Texas PGA and others with similar status from surrounding PGA sections play for the largest purse in the Houston area – a 1st place payout of $10,000 to the winning pro and a total purse of $25,000. The pros are paired with their sponsoring amateur teams who play for token prizes. The Main Golf Tournament also takes place on Monday. Sponsors, celebrities and individual players participate in this event held at Kingwood Country Club. Players enjoy the fun of the weekend while vying for token prizes. Included in the day’s festivities are breakfast snacks, a box lunch and an awards dinner held at the Kingwood Country Club. For both events, registration begins at 8:00 a.m. with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start.
In its inaugural 2004 event, tournament organizer and Board Co-Chair Dan McIntyre, raised $10,000 for cancer research. Players took on the challenging and picturesque Walden on Lake Conroe golf course, approximately 40 miles north of Houston. Today, participants in this annual event continue to enjoy golf, a party, and live and silent auctions and proceeds exceed $150,000 annually. Winners participate as platinum sponsors at the GAC Houston November events. Walden on Lake Conroe enjoys tremendous support from the Club Members and local community who look forward to the tournament each year.
On August 3rd, Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club held their 17th annual golf tournament benefiting Golfer’s Against Cancer. Expecting to have a difficult year given the Covid 19 virus pandemic, we were pleasantly surprised to have a very good year with more players, more sponsors and more funds raised for Golfer’s Against Cancer than in other years. With the proceeds from this year’s tournament, Walden has donated over $1,800,000 to GAC. We are proud to be a part of this great organization raising funds for cancer research.
The 12th Annual Denver Golfers Against Cancer (GAC) event held on July 26th and 27th was a huge success! As we all know this years event was quite different due to the covid pandemic. In part to our strong supporters and the help of Catch it in Time, we were able to pull off a great event in person and virtually. The event kicked off Sunday night with the Gala at Pradera Country Club. The attendees in attendance and online enjoyed a fun night of entertainment with Steve Azar along with a silent auction that featured some great items. GAC also shared some videos of how the Cancer Center uses the funds towards research projects. To watch the event click here.
The Gala was followed by the AutoNation Subaru West Golf Tournament on the morning of July 27th at Meridian Golf Club. Jeff Farley, a member of the Cobra long drive team, hit long drives for all the participants and helped raise money for the cause. It was a beautiful day for golf and the participants in the tournament had a great time.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and the participants, we exceeded our goal and raised $130,000 towards cancer research. The GAC Board will be receiving research proposals in the next month. The Board will then select the three projects that will receive funding this year. With this year’s donation, Denver Golfers Against Cancer has contributed nearly $1.4 million locally to help fund cancer research. These funds have generated over $12 million in additional grants for the projects supported. In addition, two different projects funded in 2010 and 2015 have gone on to clinical trial.
The 13th Annual event is currently scheduled for July 25th and 26th, 2021 at Pinehurst Country Club. Please mark your calendars now to attend the great event. We are looking for additional volunteers and board members so if you would like to play a part in this great charity and event please contact us at [email protected]
Mark your calendars for the Subaru Share the Love event that runs from late November to the first of January. Autonation Subaru West has selected Golfers Against Cancer as their local charity. When someone buys a new Subaru during Share the Love, they can select GAC as their charity and GAC will receive $250. Last year GAC received over $56,000 from the Share the Love Event.
GAC has been named as the beneficiary for a number of golf tournaments around the world as shown below. Contact us if you are interested in naming GAC as a beneficiary for your event.
This Champions Tour Event is held each year at The Woodlands Country Club, Tournament Course, Woodlands, Texas. The host sponsor, Insperity, is a Kingwood, TX-based company and long-time GAC supporter. GAC joins fellow beneficiaries M.D. Anderson, the Bush Foundation and the First Tee Program at this event. This event is televised by the Golf Channel.
GAC has friends across the pond with Golfers fro Rosemere. This group holds an annual golf tournament and dinner to generate funds for cancer research. Because of the common goals, our organizations support each other. We have been pleased to have the Rosemere golfers join us at our annual Houston events in recent years.
