The Houston events kick-off the weekend in style with golf tournaments and dinners combined with entertainment, and live and silent auctions to raise funds for cancer research. Often attracting as many as 500 participants, the days are filled with good food and lots of fun. In 1998 United Airlines joined forces with Golfers Against Cancer as the presenting sponsor and has been a fixture ever since. Corporate citizens from all over have answered the call with sponsorship dollars or in-kind gifts to ensure as much money as possible reaches the bottom line. The silent auction portion of the evening always generates a lot of high spirited competition to take home the prize by donating the highest bid. The live auction might include golf trips to exotic destinations such as Masters Weekend, Ireland, Scotland, Palm Springs, CA, Hawaii, and Bay Hill Club in Orlando. We will also introduce special honorees and the GAC Person of the Year award which is presented to an individual, nominated and voted by the GAC Board of Directors for their contributions to the success of the organization.
